The laughter of a child is just about the simplest description of what A Day In The Park is about.  There were plenty of laughs and smiles on May 21st, but we couldn’t deny something greater was happening.  The Oakland community was coming out in droves, with people constantly calling their friends and family to partake.

There’s something irresistible about free food:  BBQ, a host of carnival snacks such as snow cones, popcorn, nachos, and cotton candy.  For the kids, there was no denying the fun of playing in a jumper, planting a plant, getting your face painted, watching a balloon animal being made, or decorating your own frisbee.

At the end of the day, over 800 people had come to A Day In The Park.  Having planned for about 500, we were, quite simply put, blown away.  We blew our budget out of the water, but for one day, one community, together and just enjoying the company of one another, it was worth it.

Thank you to the attenders and the volunteers – we will see you next year!

Check out photos from the event, as well as those taken in our photobooth!
